The NZIAC Young Practitioners’ Group (YPG) has been formed for and by ‘young’ New Zealand-based practitioners and New Zealanders practising arbitration in key foreign jurisdictions such as England and Wales. The YPG works to encourage the next generation of arbitration practitioners by providing educational opportunities, hosting social and networking events, and providing a knowledge-sharing forum for young practitioners interested in, or practising in, arbitration. The YPG are excited to announce their inaugural event, a joint panel discussion to take place between London and Auckland. At the event, practitioners at different stages of their professional careers will share their thoughts and experiences in international arbitration as practitioners who trained and qualified in New Zealand. The YPG encourages any practitioners or students who have a connection to, or interest in, New Zealand to attend. The speakers will include:
Wendy Miles KC
Wendy is a specialist in international arbitration and dispute resolution with a focus on private and public international law. With over 25 years of experience, Wendy has advised on international law matters and conducted arbitrations under all the major institutions and ad hoc. She has advised a wide range of multinationals, including corporates, sovereign States and State entities and multilateral State organisations. Wendy has assisted clients across numerous sectors, including energy, natural resources, banking, insurance, financial services, gaming, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, licensing, telecommunications and construction. She has sat as arbitrator since 2005, as sole, co-arbitrator and chair under most major arbitral institutions. Wendy has been appointed by the United Kingdom to the ICSID Panel of arbitrators and ICSID Panel of conciliators effective from 10 November 2020.
Timothy Lindsay
Timothy Lindsay is recognised by Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, Benchmark Litigation and Who’s Who Legal as one of the leading litigators in New Zealand. His client-first approach, tenacity and attention to detail set him apart as an advocate for his clients' interests. In 2021 he was Benchmark Litigation’s ‘Lawyer of the Year’ for New Zealand. Rina See
Rina See is a member of WilmerHale’s international arbitration practice and focuses on complex multi-jurisdictional disputes. She has represented clients in both institutional and ad hoc arbitrations seated in common law and civil law jurisdictions, including in Europe and Asia, under various arbitral rules (including the ICC, LCIA, SIAC and UNCITRAL rules), governed by a broad variety of substantive and procedural laws. Her practice covers a wide range of industries, including in the financial services, technology, pharmaceutical, energy, manufacturing and telecommunications sectors. Rina regularly advises on issues of conflict of laws and on cross-border enforcement of arbitral awards and judgments. Prior to joining WilmerHale, Rina was a prosecutor and solicitor for one of New Zealand's Crown Solicitors, focusing on commercial, regulatory and criminal litigation on behalf of various government departments, including in high profile litigation against parties involved in finance company collapses. She also served as an advisor at the New Zealand Financial Markets Authority on secondment.
