IN BRIEF - with Rachael Douglas
(Abridged version)
Tēnā koutou katoa,
This past month I have been meeting one-on-one with many of our members. It’s been lovely catching up and learning more about the people that make up our membership. AMINZ is very fortunate to have an incredible membership base of highly experienced, passionate, knowledgeable and generous people.
Something must be in the water. From January to May 2022 we have received 23 requests for appointments. That's more than we received for the entirety of 2021! For those of you interested in AMINZ's role in appointments, I've outlined the process below.
Last month, the Young AMINZ co-chairs Anna Cho and Sharnika Leleni pulled off an amazing arbitration-focussed panel event ‘Kiwi Overseas’. A big thank you to them both for their ongoing efforts in this space. Young AMINZ is a network for new practitioners to meet, share knowledge and learn together. Please spread the word of this wonderful group, and if you’re eligible to join - I strongly encourage you to do so here.
We know that connecting with like-minded peers is an important component to the work that you do, particularly if you usually work alone. Learning and discussion with one another is imperative for ongoing growth and knowledge. Fellow Rosemarie Brown currently runs a Professional Supervision Group on behalf of AMINZ, and we are looking to expand on this. Going forward, we'll be providing further support to this group and assist in ensuring the frequency and accessibility of these catch ups (including virtual). If you’re interested in taking part, please get in touch with me.
And, finally thank you to everyone who undertook the Members’ Survey. You will start to see further changes in the next 6-12 months based off some of the suggestions that were put forward. Keep an eye out.
Ngā mihi,
Rachael
PANELS & LISTS: Recognition for working at the top of your game
AMINZ is proud to operate a number of Panels & Lists, providing a platform for showcasing those members who have highly specialised knowledge and extensive experience in a particular practice area. Admission is by application only, therefore those who sit on a Panel or List are able to add another professional achievement to their toolbox, and set themselves apart as working at the very top of their chosen field.
If you would like the opportunity to further showcase and market your skills and services, have a look at what Panels & Lists you may be eligible to apply for HERE.
While admission does not guarantee appointments, if and when they are made, AMINZ will look to the relevant Panel or List to select and nominate an appropriate professional whose skillset aligns with the dispute in question.
ONLINE LEARNING: Associate Programme
If you're looking for way to fill gaps in your knowledge, take your practice to the next level or build a membership pathway... the AMINZ Associate Programme may be the ticket! Across four semesters, participants cover a a series of modules on the New Zealand legal system, legal obligations, dispute resolution, and take part in either the Mediation or Arbitration Skills Intensive courses, dependant on where your interests lie.
Delivered in partnership with the College of Law, the Associate Programme can be completed at your own pace, primarily online, and is a fantastic way to build on and enhance your knowledge of the New Zealand legal and dispute resolution frameworks. You can sign up at any point in the year.

AMINZ MENTORING PROGRAMME: An Update
We know many AMINZ members are looking forward to the launch of our Mentoring Programme. We are currently working on the guidelines and procedure for this programme. Once they are in place, we will invite members to become either a Mentor or Mentee. We are hopeful to have the programme launched by the end of the year!
If you read something (or write something yourself!) that you think may be of interest to other AMINZ members, please send it through to us at office@aminz.org.nz
