About Rhi Munro
Rhi Munro (he/they) has worked in community led development, health promotion, and grassroots leadership for over ten years. Rhi’s current mahi is as an senior advisor for CAYAD (Community Action on Youth and Drugs), where he works to affect change within systems and environments that perpetuate drug and alcohol harm amongst youth populations.
Rhi’s subject matter expertise is how movement and exercise can empower positive change in the health and wellbeing of transgender and non-binary people. He is passionate about movement practices that are centred in community, intergenerational peer support, harm reduction, and environmental restoration. He is the co-founder of The Joyful Movement, a social enterprise that’s transforming the relationship between movement and the Queer communities of Aotearoa.
Rhi is a board member of Same Same but Different (Aotearoa’s LGBTIQ+ Literary Festival) and an alumni of the New Zealand Leadership Development Programme (2023). Rhi’s story was recently captured as part of TransGenerations, an NZME docuseries telling the stories of transgender New Zealanders.

I’m looking forward to introducing you to my community. Transgender and non-binary people are taonga and valued whānau members in households across Aotearoa. This is an opportunity for us to kōrero and understand a bit more about them, a vibrant and resilient community of people who are on an intergenerational journey toward achieving equity.
We will briefly explore the current cultural context, discuss how we facilitate mana enhancing environments, and explore some strengths-based approaches and positive youth development frameworks that will enrich your practice and add to your kete of intersectional knowledge.
