Nominations open for election to the AMINZ Council

AMINZ is governed by a seven-member Council, with a President, a Vice-President and five Ordinary Council Members. These roles are completely voluntary. Terms are two years in duration, with five roles coming up for election one year and two roles the following year. The term of any new elected members will commence at the Annual General Meeting to be held on 5 August 2021.

The Council is currently comprised of Mark Kelly (President), Nicole Smith (Vice President), Kate Hesson, Barry Jordan, Dr Anna Kirk, Rachael Schmidt-McCleave and Malcolm Wallace.

This year, Dr Anna Kirk and Barry Jordan are up for re-election. Both are eligible for further appointment to the Council.

ELIGIBILITY

The AMINZ Rules and Bylaws limit the ability to hold office, and to vote, to members who are either AMINZ Fellows or Associates. Ideally the Council should reflect the Institute’s breadth of skills, personal attributes, diversity in all its forms and geographical representation.

ROLE OF THE COUNCIL AND THE COUNCILLORS

The AMINZ Council governs the Institute, which is managed and run by the Executive Team. Council is responsible for policy setting and determining strategic direction as well as ensuring the Institute’s long term financial and operational sustainability and compliance with all relevant pieces of legislation.

As well as being standard governance roles, AMINZ Council members are expected to participate in committee and other voluntary AMINZ work over and above the regular Council meetings. Being a Council member therefore requires a material time commitment that candidates should consider before putting their names forward for election.

Council members must also keep conflict disclosures current and commit to filling in statutory forms as required for insurance and other purposes. Enquiries can be made to the Executive Director via email at executivedirector@aminz.org.nz, or on 027-229-0505.

NOMINATION FORMS

Nomination forms must be received by 5.00pm on Friday, 4 June 2021 by email to office@aminz.org.nz. In the event of more nominations being received than there are available positions, an online election will be conducted from 15 June 2021 to 10 July 2021.
