Delivering education excellence for New Zealand’s dispute resolution sector

The Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of NZ appoint Andrew Patterson as Stakeholder and Content Manager

Professional development, practical training, and collegial networking opportunities. A recent survey of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of NZ's (AMINZ) 900-strong membership base revealed that these were three key areas Aotearoa’s dispute resolution practitioners place significant value on in 2022.

The Institute has quickly made tracks on ensuring such a demand can be met and is delighted to appoint Andrew Patterson to the newly created position of Stakeholder and Content Manager.

An AMINZ Affiliate member, Andrew is currently Associate Dean Faculty at the University of Auckland Waipapa Taumata Rau Business School and Professional Teaching Fellow in the University’s Department of Management and International Business.

Holding a BCom, PGDipCom and MCom(Distinction), Andrew’s specialist areas are conflict resolution, negotiation, employment relations, and general management. Add to that his 18 years’ experience in tertiary teaching alongside his work as a strategic negotiation consultant and employment advocate, and Andrew’s skillset and expertise were exactly what the Institute and its members were looking for.

The Stakeholder and Content Manager appointment will see Andrew working directly with AMINZ members, specialists, partner organisations, and wider stakeholder groups. He will identify opportunities and develop these into best-in-class education and event programmes that cater to the variety of interests and specialist areas. These programmes will range from in-person, multi-day executive courses to collegial catchups and online learning environments.

“I see this role as pivotal in ensuring that the Institute continues to meet, and exceed, the education needs of New Zealand’s dispute resolution sector. I look forward to meeting, engaging, and working closely with the Institute’s members to turn this into a reality,” says Andrew.

AMINZ General Manager Rachael Douglas says, “Andrew’s expertise, skillset, passion for the sector, and values align with that of the Institute perfectly”.

“He comes to this position already armed with innovative ideas and a strong vision for the role. I have no doubt that the Institute’s education and training calendar will grow from strength to strength under his leadership in this area.”

Andrew will commence the position in late July 2022, and members can look forward to meeting him at both in-person and online programmes in the coming months.
