Reflecting on the AMINZ Conference 2021

August’s #AMINZ2021 conference was a turning point for the Institute. Across three days, members and non-members gathered, exchanged kōrero and learnt together. The presenters were all phenomenal. A number of challenges and opportunities were laid out for attendees to contemplate and action in order to ensure the progression of the dispute resolution profession.

We were blessed with the incredible people at Te Puia, and our cultural advisor Rawiri Waru. Their mahi gave effect to the vision of our conference committee, who steered us so clearly towards a programme that was deliberate, meaningful and provocative. It was delivered by our speakers, who lifted our eyes and our hearts.

After numerous keynote addresses, presentations, sector meetings, discussion groups and a good load of catching up and laughs, the event closed on a high with the Gala Dinner. We were honoured that Justice Sir Joe Williams (or 'Sergio' as he instructed us to call him) delivered the mini te kai.

During the evening, it was with great pleasure that we awarded AMINZ Past President Royden Hindle (FAMINZ) with Honorary Life Membership.

Some of the feedback from the conference says it all...
"Outshined my expectations.” / "It was thought provoking and challenging and just what we needed.” / “It is a highlight of my year to attend the conference” / “Great programme, very well presented, and a really great experience overall.”

Conference is a significant influencer on the following year’s work programme. We’re now working on identifying themes and actions pulled from the three days. These fold into what we take to council with recommendations about our activities for the next twelve months. We shape our education plan accordingly, and think about the subject matter and volunteer support we need to deliver what you, the members, want.

A big thank you to all who attended. It wouldn't have been the same without you. We're looking forward to seeing you all again at next year's conference, along with those of you who couldn't make it this time around. Look out for information later in the year on Conference 2022!

A big thank you to our sponsors again for backing the conference and helping us deliver a fantastic three days.
