IN BRIEF - with Rachael Douglas

(Abridged version)

Tēnā koutou katoa,

This month’s message begins with a warm welcome to our newly elected Council members. Congratulations to Kate Hesson (re-elected), Ann Skelton, and Kate Wiseman who have been elected as Ordinary Council Members. I’d also like to congratulate Nicole Smith and Malcolm Wallace who are our incoming AMINZ President and Vice-President, respectively. I’m very much looking forward to continuing the mahi with you all. On that note, keep scrolling and you’ll see that we have introduced a new section in Kōrero highlighting what Council is working on behind the scenes each month.

A big thank you to departing President Mark Kelly, alongside Councillor Rachael Schmidt-McCleave for their contribution to Council. It is very much appreciated, particularly given the turbulent, Covid-ridden years you helped steer the Institute through.

In other news, the Ministry of Justice has recently reapproved our ADRO status for another three years. This will ensure we can continue to operate as an approved service provider for FDR practitioners. Speaking of FDR, a number of you have recently enquired about Supervision Meetings. Read our recent article here discussing the value of these meetings and how you can participate.

And lastly, I’m ending this month’s message with a goodbye. Today we bid farewell to our wonderful Events and Education Manager, Sabeena Tsan. Many of our members know Sabeena well, having met her in person or online at various events over the past 18 months. She has taken up a new role pursuing her interests in UX and digital design. We’re excited for her but it’s certainly AMINZ’s loss. A big thank you to Sabeena for her contribution to AMINZ, particularly as she managed and delivered our events and training calendar throughout the pandemic - certainly no small feat.

Until next month.

Ngā mihi,
Rachael

ADJUDICATION SKILLS INTENSIVE: Coming soon

Yes...the rumours are true! Planning is well underway for the AMINZ Adjudication Skills Intensive programme. Royden Hindle, Nicole Smith and Dr Anna Kirk are taking a lead on this professional development programme which is planned for 3 and 4 November 2022 (along with a follow-up day a few weeks later).

Adjudication is becoming a very important part of the New Zealand Dispute Resolution landscape - and it’s looking like this trend is only going to continue. So, if you want to stay on top of all things adjudication, be sure to keep an eye out for details on this programme in the coming months.

Spaces are limited. Register your interest here and we'll be in touch once registrations are open.

DEFINING CONCILIATION: A Paper from ADRAC

Late last year the Australian Dispute Resolution Advisory Council (ADRAC) released an important paper in regards to the definition and practice of conciliation. This is likely of great interest to New Zealand dispute resolution practitioners. Missed it? It's definitely worth a peruse.

Read here.

If you read something (or write something yourself!) that you think may be of interest to other AMINZ members, please send it through to us at office@aminz.org.nz
