A Memorable Evening with Arbitration Experts: Young AMINZ Hosts Inaugural Event in Wellington
Our Young AMINZ co-chair, Diana Qui, recently hosted our first Wellington event. Read on to discover her insights and reflections on how it unfolded.
On a wet and windy Wellington evening, junior dispute resolution practitioners gathered round to have a fireside chat with distinguished arbitration superstars Dr Amokura Kawharu, Nicola Swan and Rob Kirkness. The event, organised in collaboration with the Wellington Young Lawyers' Committee, was the first time that Young AMINZ has hosted an event in Wellington.
Amongst the topics discussed included what arbitration is in a nutshell, its advantages and disadvantages compared with litigation, and the breadth and depth of international arbitration. As well, the panellists shared stories of their experiences working in arbitration in both a practical and academic context and offered some valuable insights as to how junior practitioners could apply themselves to the field. The chat concluded with some light networking over nibbles and juices.
Young AMINZ is grateful to Amokura, Nicola and Rob for their generosity with their time and expertise. We also appreciate the support of the Wellington Young Lawyers' Committee and the New Zealand Law Society for their assistance in promoting and running the event.
Young AMINZ is dedicated to fostering the growth and development of emerging practitioners in dispute resolution. Through events like these, Young AMINZ aims to create opportunities for junior members to learn from experienced professionals, network with peers, and gain valuable insights into the world of arbitration and mediation.
Stay tuned for more events and initiatives designed to support and inspire the next generation of dispute resolution experts.
